NSS Unit/Social Responsibility Committee

Objectives:

  • To encourage the young NSS volunteers to understand the community in which they live and identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities by adopting skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude to develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters;
  • To practice national integration and social harmony.

Responsibilities:

  • To prepare the NSS programme for the academic year.
  • To evaluate the work of the college NSS unit.
  • To enlist student participation
  • To receive reports of various programme sub committees of NSS.

Associated Activities:

  • The unit may conduct Regular activities includes functional literacy and non formal education, plantation, cleaning of village ponds and wells, health education and primary health care, first aid awareness, blood donation, anti drug addiction drives, advocating advanced agricultural practice, disaster management(floods, earth-quakes, drought), women empowerment, road safety, socio-economic surveys, improvement of campus etc.
  • The unit also is expected to organize interactive sessions and informal meetings with NSS volunteers to attend to their individual, social and academic problems.
  • Guide the NSS volunteers, to optimally utilize the benefits of the schemes, State level and National level awards offered by the State Governments, Government of India .

Procedure:

  • The member Secretary, in consultation with the Chairman of the Committee, shall prepare a provisional agenda for meeting.
  • It shall be circulated to all Members of the Committee two days before meeting.
  • All the decisions should be taken on the basis of discussion and social aspects.
  • After the meeting, the Committee shall approve a report embodying its views, recommendations and decisions.
  • Maintain records of the committee in a separate file with supporting documents (notice/photos/ Statistical data /minutes of meeting).
