VGST Sponsored Laboratory
Department of Civil Engineering has been received a grant of Rs. 40.0 Lakhs from Vision Group of Science and Technology, Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Science and Technology Bengaluru, Government of Karnataka in the year 2014-2015. This grant received under VGST program of K-First (Level-II). The research project was proposed under Investigation studies on “Effective utilization of distillery Spent wash and Press mud from Sugar industry in composting process”. The by-products from the two industries are considered as most significant in compare with waste from other organic waste producing industries. Since without a proper treatment, these waste by-products cannot be disposed off on land and water bodies and it creates potential hazards to the environment.
Our department is having an unique M.Tech course in Karnataka state on “Waste Water Management, Health and Safety Engineering” since 2014-2015 approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to VTU, Belagavi.
Also we are very happy to say that our department has been recognised as VTU- Research centre of our Institution. We have well established laboratory on water and waste water analysis. Various Investigational studies were carried out in our research centre, to generate organic compost as a manure for agricultural purpose using sugar industrial by-product (Pressmud) and distillery spent wash using vermi compost and microbial consortium process.
